Introduction
The goal of Max% GT Code is to finish with the maximum item percentage shown on the credits screen. The rules are: GT Code is allowed, no out of bounds, no glitched beams. The maximum possible percentage is 135%.

Max% GT Code does not require the player to manually collect all of the items in the game. In fact, during the early part of the run it is crucial that the player must not collect certain items. The player should perform the GT code while having the minimum number of e-tanks, reserve tanks, and ammo packs. This will leave the maximum number of these items to be collected after the GT code, which is essential for 135%.

This category is similar to GT Classic and uses many of the same tricks.

The Max% GT Code leaderboard can be found here:
https://www.speedrun.com/super_metroid_category_extensions#Max_GT-Code

Why is 135% the max?
After GT Code, the player will have 53% items. Then go collect 45 missiles, 9 supers, 9 PBs, 14 e-tanks, 4 reserves, and 1 screw attack. This adds up to 53+45+9+9+14+4+1 = 135%.

There are two important things to note:

1.) GT Code doesn't add 100/20/20 ammo capacity to your inventory - it replaces whatever you already had. If you have 5/5/5 ammo when you do the GT Code, then now you have 100/20/20. If you have 30/15/15 ammo when you do the GT Code, then you'll still wind up with 100/20/20. The same is also true for e-tanks and reserves (this is important). This means that to get the most out of GT Code, you want to enter it with 5/5/5 ammo and NO e-tanks/reserves. This leaves the maximum number of these items still remaining on Zebes for you to go pick up after GT Code.

2.) E-tanks, reserves, and ammo packs count the number that you have when item percentage is determined. On the other hand, major items like Gravity Suit and Plasma Beam are either yes or no; you either have it or you don't. Getting a major item like this before or after GT Code will have no effect on your final item percentage, because either way you will have exactly 1 of that item at the end of the game. This means you never need to pick up items that are out of the way like Spring Ball, X-ray, etc.

It's possible to use two frozen Violas in Kronic Boost Room to moonfall with enough speed to bypass the Power Bomb door and get into Lava Dive Room with no Power Bombs. It then requires ice clipping up through Mickey Mouse Room and then going through Pillars Room in reverse with bombs. This leaves 10 PB packs to collect after GT Code, leading to a maximum percentage of 136%. However, on the NTSC version of the game this is TAS-only. On PAL it is extremely difficult, but potentially viable for humans.

Route considerations
KPRD Route
Entering GT Code with 5/5/5 ammo and 0/0 e-tanks/reserves raises the question of how you are going to get through the Lava Dive Room to enter Lower Norfair. If you pick up 1 e-tank to perform a lava dive, then you won't get 135% at the end of the game (see notes 1 and 2 above). Instead, this category picks up Gravity Suit to perform a gravity jump.

Getting to Gravity Suit is interesting, because you don't want to get the moat missile before GT Code. Also, you need to get across the spikes in the bowling room with 0 e-tanks. Theoretically, you could horizontal bomb jump near the ceiling of the moat and bowling room. A more common method is to pick up Speed Booster to shinespark over the moat. Since the player will have 0 e-tanks, Varia Suit is collected to survive the heated rooms on the way to Speed Booster. With the protection from Varia, the player can also survive jumping across the bowling room spikes. Remember, getting these major items before GT Code will have no effect on the item percentage at the end of the game.

The route can be summarized as:
# Defeat Kraid and collect Varia Suit, Speed Booster, and (optionally) Hi Jump Boots.
# Defeat Phantoon and get Gravity Suit.
# Gravity jump into Lower Norfair. At this point, the player should have 5/5/5 ammo and NO e-tanks or reserves.
# Perform the GT Code. From this point on, collect all e-tanks, reserves, and ammo packs. Pick up Screw Attack.
# Defeat Ridley.
# The only remaining major boss to defeat is Draygon. Collect all e-tanks, reserves, and ammo packs in the game. Major items can be skipped.
# Enter Tourian and finish the game.

PRKD Route
Phantoon-first is possible, allowing a Gravity Jump without Varia, with the potential to be significantly faster than KPRD, but there are two primary obstacles to this route: the Moat must be traversed by Bomb Jumping without collecting the missile, and Bowling Alley must be crossed while taking at most one hit from the spikes.

To do this you must either Bomb Jump across the whole room, or unmorph and use X-Ray as you take a spike hit, allowing you to walk across the room in X-Mode.

KRDP Route
A tool-assisted segment by BFrobber shows that a 0 e-tank lava dive is possible, however it was only shown to be humanly possible by zoast and ShinyZeni months after this was known. Since this trick can be done, it can save approximately 7 minutes by not needing Gravity Suit before GT Code, making the routing somewhat similar to GT Classic. However, this 0 e-tank lava dive is extremely difficult, and should only be done by highly-skilled runners.

Other remarks
* GT Code doesn't grant Screw Attack, so the player must pick it up.
* Prior to entering GT Code, the player can optionally get major items like Spazer or Wave to assist with the 0 e-tank Phantoon fight. After GT Code, picking up major items has no effect (besides Screw Attack).
* At the end of the game, ammo counts should be 325/65/65. The player should have 21 e-tanks and 7 reserves.
* In 2015, eternisedDragon7 did a noteworthy (and impressive) run in which GT Code was performed with the minimum number of major items. This required bomb jumping over the moat missiles and bowling room. After GT Code, all remaining items were manually collected, including major items already granted by GT Code. This run finished with 135% despite the extra effort involved, thereby showing that 135% is the maximum.

100% Map Completion, aka. Mapo is a category with the purpose of turning all the existing map tiles in pink. This can be made by passing by all the map tiles with the exception of boss rooms, whose are automatically turned pink on the exit. Plus, an invisible map in Green Brinstar Fireflea Room, for which its collection or not has to be decided by the community *. All this makes a total of 1243 (only counting pink tiles) or 1244 (the set of pink tiles together with 1 especially conveniently accessible permanently black tile), respectively, map squares.

Items
This category allows to take as many items as you want to complete the game and turn all map tiles in pink. As you have to travel through every room in the game, the penalty time to go pick up e-tank is slightly lower than in any%. Thereby, runners usually pick up at least 7 tanks to allow stand-up glitch. Another reason to pick up extra items is to either refill your energy or avoid later farm which would cost more time.

Usual Itemset (Based On WR)
- Morph Ball
- Bombs
- 3+ packs of missiles
- 3+ packs of supers
- 2+ packs of power bombs
- Speedbooster
- Varia Suit
- Gravity Suit
- 8+ Energy Tanks
- High Jump Boots
- Space Jump
- Screw Attack
- Spring Ball
- Ice Beam
- Plasma Beam
- Grappling Beam

Route
Ceres
Ceres station is for the most part similar from any other category, with one exception: The Ridley room tile does not turn pink when you first enter the room. You have to leave it and get back in after the escape sequence is toggled.

Early Zebes
The begin of the run is very similar to the 100% item route. In fact, most of the tiles you may skip will be collected later. You go down pick up morphball and your first missile pack, then climb back, pick up the bombs, and beat the Bomb Torizo. Head to the terminator room, pick up the e-tank and take the elevator to green bBrinstar. Head to the Early Super Room, go grab the super pack and go back to the reserve tank room. You don't have to pick up any item, just roll beneath the Chozo statue, and grab the two tiles. Optimally, you want to escape this room doing the reverse Mockball

Pink Brinstar to Kraid
Head to Big Pink, grab the Charge Beam, go toward the red tower. You don't have to grab any tile out of your way, you will go back there.
Go down the red tower. Head to the Spazer room, you don't have to pick it.
Head directly to Kraid, defeat him, and pick Varia Suit. You don't have to pick up Kraid's room tiles, they turn automatically to pink.
Head to the missile and energy refill room, pick up the Kraid's save room tile, pick up Kraid e-tank, and go down the elevator to Norfair.

Norfair
Go pick up Highjump Boots, and its e-tank. Head to Bubble Mountain, grab all the 6 tiles in both pre-cathedral and cathedral room. Climb up Bubble mountain, and go pick up Speed Booster. You have to let you fall in a couple of holes on the way in because slopes do not grab every tile. Head to Wave Beam, pick it up, grab all the tiles in Double Chamber. Escape using the lower door, and go down. Go to the lava rooms, and head to the Kronic Boost room. Take the higher left door. Go pick up the pre-dive farm room tile. Go back to Bubble Mountain, grab the lower right tile by breaking the bomb block and rolling in the tunnel you normally exit in any%. Head to Crocomire, you may want to farm a bit the bug at the farming spot next to the door if you're really low on hp or ammo. Beat Crocomire, pick up it's e-tank and wait a bit here, you won't collect the map tile until you croc completely sunk in the acid. Head to croc's powerbombs, grab them and go down the shaft. Pick the right room tiles, don't grab the missile pack.
collect all the tiles in the big Indiana Jones room grapple_map_strat, beware of the missile tile, and the one below it. Pick up the grappling beam, take the grapple escape, grab all the map tiles in the water pools. Pick up the croc save room tile. You also may farm a bit here. Take the croc escape, grab all tiles in it, head back to business center. Take the map room tile, take the elevator to Brinstar.
100% Map Completion, aka. Mapo is a category with the purpose of turning all the existing map tiles in pink. This can be made by passing by all the map map tiles with the exception of boss rooms, whose are automatically turned pink on the exit.

Another reason to pick up extra items is to either refill you're energy, or avoid later farm which would cost more time.

The following text is Eternised Dragon Explanation on why the Invisible tile in Brinstar Fire Fly Room should not be mandatory in Map Completion :

The reasoning behind this and current state of the art is that due to its behavior deviating from tiles that actually can be coloured pink (which this tile cannot, as opposed to every single other map tile part of 100% Map Completion, so that its behavior in this regard is to be classified as the same behavior that is shared among plenty other visitable inbounds aswell as out of bounds black squares), the community never made a decision about it.
On the other hand side though, since the tile is inbounds, it is no issue moving through it, and fortunately the fastest strategy to move through this room passes through this tile anyways. Though it is worth noting that the technical implementation of the Map is entirely independent of what tiles fill a given Map tile, so it depends on if one wants a given 100% Map Completion run to be true to the explicit work that was done on the Map implementation back then the way it was done by the game's developers, or ignore this aspect and define this aspect according to inbounds Map tile accessibility reasoning, which might possibly risk requiring a uniform definition on at what accessibility limits a Map tile is or is not to be counted towards the set of tiles that shall be collected.
