This page is meant for any discussion, or ideas, that relate to the way our categories are organized, named, and presented on Super Metroid's leaderboard page. Please feel free to express any ideas or concerns you may have - that includes creating content on this page that reflects your ideas.

Parent Categories

Larger/more inclusive category names can be used as a Parent Category in order to clean up certain categories (such as 14%). They would still exist on the site, but it could provide for better organization. The more popular of the choices could appear first under the Parent Category.

No Major Glitches

  • [Any%] -> (RTA, IGT, PAL)
  • [100%] -> (Item, Map)
  • [14%] -> (Ice, Speed, IceBooster, xIce, PB-Chargeless, PAL Iceboots, PAL Speedboots)
  • [RBO]

Major Glitches

  • [Any%]
  • [Low%] -> (2%, 12% All Bosses)
  • [GT Code] -> (Classic, Spacetime)

Any% IGT

Any opinions on simply removing this? No one has actively run exclusively IGT strats since Hotarubi, as far as I know, and people only post their IGT in here from their normal any% RTA PBs anyway. I understand it would remove the first 28 from the site, but its already enshrined in here, the wiki, under Record Progression.

The title of the category would lead anyone to believe that it is a category where people actively use IGT to the detriment of RTA, but that isn't the case. Instead, if people really want to post their IGT, I'd rather just add another column to the any% RTA category where people can add their IGT from their RTA pb, or just ignore IGT altogether.

Naming Conventions

100% Map Completion vs Map Completion

The inclusion of "100%" in the title for this category may lead to confusion regarding whether or not the category collects 100% of the items in addition to completing the map. Since the category already includes the word completion, which would imply 100% (in regards to the map), then 100% is not required. Furthermore, % has been used in every other category to refer to the explicit % counter at the end of the game. Choosing to not use it for "Map Completion" would provide consistency amongst categories.

Parental categories by item percentage

To furthermore avoid any confusion, one suggestion would be to put all categories that strictly doesn't have an item goal under any% (MG or NMG). For instance, both GT Classic and GT Code are any% (glitched) categories.

In the case of major glitched categories:

  • any%: Beat the game as fast as possible, no restrictions.
  • any% GT Code: Beat the game as fast as possible, Golden Torizo code is allowed.
  • any% GT Classic: Beat the game as fast as possible, Golden Torizo code is allowed, out of bounds is not allowed.

The down-side to putting categories like these as any% categories is that anyone could add a normal any% run and it would seem completely legit. Also, as seen with GT Code, making clear rules for it without adding confusing exceptions becomes difficult, as both any% and GT Code are done by using x-ray. Perhaps 'beat the game as fast possible, but x-ray is only allowed to be picked up from GT', but would perhaps be too arbitrary.

The main point of sorting them like this though is that it would get rid of Golden Torizo Code as a parental category. It would make the leader-board a bit cleaner, but also take advantage of any% tabs.

Renaming RBO

Because RBO is not technically Reverse Boss Order but rather any% RDPK, it would make sense to put it as an any% tab. The category does not have a specific item goal but it requires you to beat the major bosses (except Mother Brian) in the reverse order.

Another suggestion is to rename RBO to RG4 (Reverse Golden 4).
